AMAZON EXPEDITIONS 75 COLONIAL COAST & AMAZON 12 DAYS | RIO DE JANEIRO TO MANAUS | MAR 17, 2022 V122 | SEABOURN VENTURE DAY 0 | RIO DE JANEIRO The harbor of Rio de Janeiro , under the looming peaks of Sugarloaf and Corcovado, is one of the most recognizable and picturesque ports in the world. Perched high on Corcovado, the statue of Christ the Redeemer is an iconic symbol above the verdant Tijuca National Park, the world’s- largest urban rain forest reserve. The whole area is inscribed as a UNESCO Environmental Heritage and Biosphere Reserve. Here you will embark Seabourn Venture to begin your voyage along South America’s colonial coast and the Amazon River. DAY 1 | ARMAÇÃO DOS BÚZIOS Popularly known as “Buzios,” Armação dos Búzios is a seaside resort boasting 23 beautiful beaches, which held fishermen’s boats until French movie star Brigitte Bardot raved about it to her celebrity circle and put it on the map. Visit the Chapel of Our Lady Mary Un-doer of Knots, decorated with sculptural angels loosening strands. Búzios is pretty loosely wound itself – a place where Cariocas flock to enjoy the good life. Restaurants, bars, and shops line the Rua das Pedras. DAYS 2-3 | ATLANTIC OCEAN Get more familiar with Seabourn Venture, your shipmates and the members of your Expedition Team as you cruise the Atlantic Ocean along the Brazilian coast. The team will host presentations and briefings, as well as circulating on deck to point out passing marine life and birds attracted to your ship. Take some time to relax and enjoy the many pleasures of your ultra-luxury expedition ship. DAY 4 | RECIFE Tall, glass skyscrapers sprawl along the beach of Recife , the large capital of Brazil’s northeastern Pernambuco state. Cosseted within its modernity are baroque gems of Portuguese colonial architecture like the stunning Capela Dourada laminated with a reputed 264 pounds (120 kg) of pure gold. It is a place of islets, bridges and water- ways with museums displaying cultural material from the interior sertão region and the unique frevo traditional Carnaval dance of Recife, which is performed with small, colorful umbrellas. DAY 5 | NATAL Natal , the “City of Dunes” invites you to ride a dune buggy over the towering Jenipabu sand dunes with sweeping views of the sea. Choose a relaxing meander or a thrill-ride and wear your bathing suit for a swim in the Pitangui Lagoon. One landmark is the world’s-largest cashew tree, which covers an area of 86,000 square feet (7,989 sq. m) and produces a harvest of nearly 80,000 cashew nuts. DAYS 6-8 | ATLANTIC OCEAN After your active days in Brazil’s colonial outposts, relax as you continue northward in the tropical Atlantic Ocean . Your ship’s open decks offer a mix of sun and shade, and the attentive service is everything you’d expect from Seabourn. DAY 9 | AMAZON RIVER The largest river on earth drains an immense area stretching from the slopes of the Andes in the west and colors the very ocean hundreds of miles from its mouth. DAY 10 | SANTARÉM Once a center of the rubber boom, Santarém remains an important port on the Amazon River. The protected FLONA national rain forest is nearby and the wetlands of Lago Maicá are teeming with wildlife including toucans, macaws, pink dolphins, howler monkeys, sloths and anacondas. The “Wedding of the Waters” where the dark, leaf-stained Rio Tapajós meets with the soil-rich, ochre Amazon is a prime attraction for visitors. DAY 11 | PARINTINS The Amazon River town of Parintins is famous for its Boi-Bumba Festival, an elaborate spectacle of floats, music, colorful costumes and chaotic abandon, similar to the Rio’s Carnaval. Parintins’ citizens have the Brazilian penchant for fanatic fervor, and many of the town’s houses are painted in either red or blue, according to the team allegiance of its occupants. Your visit will no doubt occasion a performance capturing some of the crazy exuberance of the annual event. DAY 12 | MANAUS The largest city on the Amazon and the main port for trade between the Amazon Basin and the outside world, Manaus is located on the Rio Negro, a few miles from where it meets the Rio Solimões to form the Amazon at the famous “Meeting of the Waters.” Here you will disembark Seabourn Venture to begin your homeward journey, with indelible memories of Brazil’s colonial coast and the mighty Amazon River.
